A New Modest Proposal

Dear JD:

Your show is the only thing that helps me bear the Arizona heat. Today, I want to suggest to you a bit of a different perspective. I think stopping the sweeps of illegal immigration is not enough. We need to go further. I think that we need to call on Mayor Gordon, Jack Harris, Joe Arpaio and the rest of Arizona law enforcement to immediately stop the unconscionable practice of targeting drivers that may have been drinking alcoholic beverages, and then simply wanting to drive home to their families. We must stop the "sobriety check points" that amount to nothing more than medical profiling. Remember, alcoholism is a medical disability. How dare the police be allowed to ask me if I have been drinking unless I have committed a REAL crime-like destroying property, or injuring or killing a person. Then if I fail their obviously rigged "sobriety test" they tear me from my family and put me in jail for having a medical problem, when I have not committed any REAL crime.

This unfair treatment of the medically disabled MUST STOP! Police must stop asking drunks how much they have had to drink, or if they have been drinking at all during routine stops. There is simply not enough room in the jails, and the police simply don't have the resources to deal with this. They need to focus on REAL crimes.

Look at this statistically. Upon the thousands and thousands of medically disabled people in this state that choose to drive drunk, only a very small percentage actually do any harm, so why are we wasting our resources on it? I think we need to form a committee and get this heinous practice of medical discrimination stopped for the good of all Americans.

Now for the record, I do not drink at all, and never have been intoxicated. Furthermore, I am certain that 90% of your listeners realize how absolutely ridiculous the above idea is. I am interested in hearing what the "civil libertarians" think about this, because this absolutely mirrors their argument on open-borders and fighting to keep law enforcement from verifying the legal status of everyone when stopped.

  • Most illegals don't kill people; neither do most drunk drivers.
  • Most illegals are hard working people simply trying to provide for their families; so are most drunk drivers.
  • Drunk driving is illegal; so is entering this country without permission.
JD, I love your show and your common sense approach to this issue, keep up the good fight.

Sincerely,
Ron
